Serpentine & Jade Mix Necklace – Collected in Hokitika, New Zealand

A truly special piece of wearable New Zealand history. This necklace features a stunning natural serpentine and jade mix stone, displaying a beautiful array of colours alongside striking magnetite inclusions — no two pieces are alike.

This stone was personally collected by us in Hokitika, on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, while filming Outback Crystal Hunters Season 3 — making it not just a beautiful piece of jewellery, but a genuine artefact with a story behind it.

The Significance of Pounamu

Pounamu (Greenstone) is one of the most significant taonga to Māori. Found only in Te Waipounamu (the South Island of Aotearoa), pounamu has been treasured by Māori for generations and holds deep connections to whenua, (land, whakapapa, (history) mana (power) and wairua, (energy). It is much more than a stone; pounamu carries the history and connections of the people who have held and passed it on. Traditionally, it has been carefully made into taonga such as tools, weapons, ornaments and hei, often being passed down through whānau (family) as something of lasting meaning.

For Māori, wearing pounamu can represent a connection to the whenua, our people, our tūpuna (ancestors) and our whakapapa. A piece can become deeply personal to the person who wears it, carrying memories, relationships and meaning over time. It is this connection that makes pounamu a taonga rather than simply something to be worn.
