About NZ Pyrite

NZ Pyrite is a small, independent business based in Gisborne, New Zealand, run by Matias Contreras-Rojas and Whetu. We personally source and sell rare pyrite specimens, septarian nodules, agates, other New Zealand minerals, and handmade jewellery made from NZ-collected stone.

Product accuracy

Every specimen is natural and one-of-a-kind. We do our best to photograph and describe each piece accurately, but natural variation in colour, size, and pattern is expected and is not a defect.

Pounamu

Where we sell serpentine, pounamu (greenstone), or pounamu-mix pieces, these are collected and sold with permission from Ngāi Tahu, who hold kaitiakitanga (guardianship) over pounamu found in Te Waipounamu (the South Island).

What we don’t sell

We do not currently sell quartz, as we do not yet hold the licence required to sell it in New Zealand.

Pricing

All prices are listed in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and set individually per piece based on size, quality, and rarity. We reserve the right to correct pricing errors before an order is confirmed.
